The UK–China Clean Energy Cooperation Forum connects government, business, academia and investors to advance cooperation in clean energy and sustainable development. Returning to Manchester for its fifth edition, the 2026 Forum will focus on turning dialogue into practical partnerships across cities, industries and projects.
The Forum is jointly hosted by the China Chamber of Commerce in the UK (CCCUK), the Manchester Chinatown Business Association (MCBA) and the North England Chinese Enterprises Association (NECEA), and organised by L Square UKCN Ltd.
Building on Four Editions
Since its early editions in 2022–2023, rooted in hydrogen energy cooperation and exchanges between Manchester and Wuhan, the Forum has broadened its scope to include clean energy technology, green finance and industrial partnerships. The signing of the Wuhan–Manchester 2025 Action Plan for Friendly Exchange and Cooperation at the 2024 Forum marked a milestone in its city-to-city engagement.
The 2026 Focus
Under the theme “Green Transition · City Partnership · Industrial Collaboration”, this year’s Forum will bring together UK and Chinese participants to share expertise and explore opportunities through two panel discussions:
Priority areas include offshore wind and subsea cables, grid connections, building energy efficiency, the circular economy and green project finance.
City Partnerships and Business Cooperation
The programme includes a special session marking the 40th anniversary of the Manchester–Wuhan sister-city relationship, reflecting on four decades of exchange and exploring future cooperation in green development, innovation and industry.
A planned strategic cooperation and signing ceremony, organised by the Fujian General Chamber of Commerce in the UK, will involve ZD Energy and Shanghai KuaiBu (KBVIP). Business matchmaking and networking will connect companies, technology providers, project developers, research institutions and investors to explore market opportunities and potential partnerships.
Beyond the Annual Forum
CUCEF aims to develop an ongoing cross-border network and specialist advisory support for market entry, project identification, partner introductions and follow-up. Its long-term ambition is to help participants turn shared interests into sustained UK–China cooperation.
